Multicultural Content and Multiple Perspectives
Multicultural Content and Perspectives in Lesson Planning
Teaching K5 Special education is rewarding, as I get to follow the same curriculum and state standards as general education teachers. All students should learn the meaning of diversity, and be aware of multicultural content and perspectives. Lessons in the ELA block can help reflect the diversity of the community, region, county and world by inspiring themselves and others through literature and text to compare experiences and feelings about what is right and what is wrong.
The lesson that contained multicultural content and Perspectives that I applied to my classroom taught students about diversity and discrimination. This lesson allowed students to define diversity and discrimination, as well as apply what they learned and come up with ideas that they can apply to the real world.
It is important to introduce students to multicultural content and multiple perspectives at an early age in order to prepare them for real life in the workplace, as well as in the world. When students are well equipped with this knowledge they can take responsibility of their environment and defend themselves and others from civil injustice.
Formative and summative assessments such as class discussions and quizzes are just a couple ways to check students understandings of the lesson content. These assessments can be given frequently or at the end of a lesson. One way I like to do it is to pass out the same quiz at the beginning and end of a lesson to check for students understanding of the material.
